Juan Arenas, MD
Dr. Juan Arenas is a multi-organ transplant surgeon trained at the University of Pennsylvania. He was recruited in 2007 to the University of Texas (UT) Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas to build a solid organ transplantation program at University Hospital/St. Paul. Both liver and kidney programs have been established and are growing and several new surgeons have been added to the faculty. A joint kidney program with Parkland Health & Hospital System has also expanded significantly. Dr. Arenas specializes in living donor liver transplantation, donation aftter cardiac death and extracorporeal circulatory support, and laparoscopic liver surgery including robotic assisted surgery. He has established a research program currently investigating ECMO support to improve graft viability. Dr. Arenas is an Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery, Chairman of the Division of Surgical Transplantation, and Surgical Director of the UT Southwestern Liver Transplant Program.
