The Trinkle / Banowsky Abstract and Case Presentations
2011 Presentation Contest is Closed
TTS invites submissions from its members in two different areas:
- Abstracts of a scientific nature presenting research by transplant fellows and residents.
- Case presentation of a clinical nature. Case presentations may be submitted by residents, fellows and associate members.
2010 Winners
Congratulations once again to Dr. Wael ElKady for receiving the Trinkle-Banowsky Abstract Competition award for the third time. He is a cardiovascular surgical fellow at Texas Heart Institute in Houston. Dr. ElKady titled his abstract, "Impact of delayed graft function in African American renal allograft recipients" and was sponsored by Osama Gaber, MD, FACS. He is pictured on the left with Dr. Lappin.
Also, congratulations to Jose Melendez, MD, who won the 2010 Case Presentation Competition. He is a pulmonary critical care fellow at Baylor College of Medicine. His case presentation was titled, "Refractory Hypoxemia after Lung Transplantation".
2009 Winners
Congratulations to Wael ElKady, MD, for winning the 2009 Trinkle/Banowsky Abstract Competition (resident/fellows category) for the second year in a row. He presented his topic, "Risk Factors for Early Thrombotic Complications in Kidney Transplant Recipients" Saturday. Dr. ElKady is a post doctoral transplant fellow, with Dr. Osama Gaber as sponsor, at the Methodist Hospital in Houston.
Also, congratulations to Shawn P. Nishi, MD, for her win of the Case Presentation contest. Dr. Nishi's title, "Successful Treatment of a Concurrent Lung Infection with Atypical Aspergillus and Nocardia spp in a Single-lung Recipient" was presented on Saturday. The case presentations were voted on by both the audience and a panel of judges. Dr. Nishi is a Pulmonary and Critical Care Fellow with the Department of Internal Medicine of UTMB in Galveston.
